Surf Rescue

SURF RESCUE

Surf Rescue Competition showcases all aspects of Surf Life Saving, from Surf Sports, to First Aid and an in depth knowledge of lifesaving practices. It allows not only those who are gifted in the water but also those who have a passion for the other areas of lifesaving an opportunity to show what they can do. There are team and individual events so there is really something for everyone!

Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club has a strong history in the Surf Rescue Competition going back to the 1980’s. The Club has seen success at Branch, State and walked away with numerous Australian Medals as well.

How It Works

Teams must qualify from each level of competition from the Branch championships to state championships to the Australian championships where normally the top two from Queensland get the opportunity to compete against the best of Australia. Competition includes the following age Groups:

U14 – Champion Lifesaver Only

U15 – First Aid, Champion Lifesaver & Patrol Competition (Note: U14 competitors can compete in U15 First Aid and Patrol competition Teams)

U17 – First Aid, Champion Lifesaver & Patrol Competiton

U19 – First Aid and Champion Lifesaver

Open – First Aid, Champion Lifesaver & Patrol Competition

Masters (Various Age Groups) – Champion Lifesaver only

Surf Rescue Is Made Up of 3 Sections:

First Aid

Teams of two compete in mock scenarios where they are judged on their communication, teamwork and treatment skills. Whilst the scenarios are mock, the make up, props and acting make it feel very real for the competitors.

Patrol Competition

Teams of four compete across four disciplines, Theory paper, Resuscitation, Physical Events and a Patrol Scenario.

Champion Lifesaver

Individuals compete over three disciplines, Theory, Resuscitation, and Surf Sports, allowing competitors to show not only their surf skills but also their knowledge of Lifesaving practices and Resuscitation skills.
